Not only has this Handstand Club proven that to me\, it’s also opened my eyes to the giant breadth of work I can participate in to feel stronger in my handstand and also just feel stronger in general.” \n  \nDates: \nWednesday 12pm EST and Saturday 10:30am EST from April 21 to June 12 (16 classes in total) \nPrice:  \nEarly Bird Pricing has been extended to April 20th: $189 CAD (+ tax where applicable) \nPrevious Handstand Club participants receive 50% off (please go check your email for your coupon code) \nMindful Strength Membership subscribers get 30% off the early bird price\, must sign up before April 1st. Members\, we are emailing you a coupon code\, if you don’t see it reach out to support@mindfulstrength.ca \n** $189 CAD is approx. $157 USD \nClick here to sign up now \nMore about the class \nHandstand training has to be the right balance of strength and skill. Most people just start kicking up at the wall and miss the specific strength training and skill training. This practice also needs to be consistent\, which means shorter practice sessions more often. Twice a week for 40 minutes is better than once a week for 60+ minutes. When you sign up you will get access to the live classes as well as the recordings. If you miss a class you can catch up at your own convenience. \nKathryn will be practicing along with you. She is teaching this series because she loves handstands and wants to work on them more consistently too. She will guide you through the 45-minute practice which will include a warm-up. There will be an optional 20-minute Q&A at the end. If you need personalized instruction or you want to show the group what you are working on this is the time. \nWhat to expect? \n\nA brief dynamic warm-up to begin each class (if you need more warm-up please begin early)\nSpecific and progressive wrist strength/mobility\nShoulder strength/mobility focussed mainly on pushing\nFull body mobility required to practice handstand with more ease (yes mobility helps!)\nRebalancing exercises for those who want to move away from the wall\nCore strength/awareness to connect your arms to your legs\nA fun and creative environment where we can all work on this playful pose\nGymnastics style strength training including basic locomotive exercises\nA balance of strength training and skill training\nA PDF to fill out as you go\n\nWhat you need \n\nA little bit of empty space on the floor\, a mat\, and some wall space\nA long resistance band (we recommend latex-free Theraband in red)\nA chair or stairs or counter space for incline push-ups\nA set of yoga blocks or books\n(if you have other props like weights\, handstand blocks\, ankle weights etc… great\, but these are not necessary)\n\n  \n“I’m having a ton of fun in this program. I’ve been practicing Handstands since I was a kid and have even taught programs for Handstands myself\, but I’m still learning new things in Kathryn’s course. I appreciate the exercise manuals so that I can keep working on this beyond the timeline of the live classes. Definitely getting loads of value from being in this program!” \n  \nWho is this for? \n\nYou do not need to be able to do a handstand to join\, this is not about perfection it’s about progress\nYou do not need to be able to kick up at the wall\, although we will do this\, Kathryn will give you additional options\nPeople who want to step up their handstand skills in a supportive community\nPeople who have been trying handstands for a while but need a more progressive system\nPeople who want to have fun with their movement\n\n  \nThis club will be about progress\, you can practice with your video on or off\, Kathryn will be demonstrating. If you would like personal feedback you can have your video on and ask questions at the end of class. \nClick here to sign up now \n

The first 10-15 minutes will begin with a simple lesson on one element of pain. The group will then move through a 45 minute practice that combines yoga poses with functional movements\, basic strength training\, and a restorative cool down. Participants are welcome to stay for an additional 15 minutes after the class to chat if they would like. This class is also open to teachers who work with people in pain. \nClick here to sign up now \nThis class will focus on \n\nUnderstanding a few key points about pain to learn more about our options and become empowered to make decisions about how we move\nSpecific mindful exercises to explore pain\nBreathing techniques that can help calm the nervous system\nFunctional strengthening movements that will help build tissue (muscles\, bones etc…) capacity\nA range of movements to explore what is possible\, some movements will be challenging while others will be restorative\nPersonal choice and exploration\, this is a non-dogmatic environment\n\nKey points about pain \n\nPain is not an accurate representation of tissue damage\nPain tells us that there is a problem\, but it doesn’t tell us what the problem is\, where the problem is or how bad it is\nBecoming more discerning about pain is helpful\, discernment = more choices\nWe don’t have to avoid everything that hurts\nNew movements can help us build new experiences and pathways\nCalming things down then building things up helps build capacity even when pain might be present\nWe can have pain and still be strong\n\nAbout Kathryn \nKathryn has completed a nine-month long mentorship with physiotherapist\, yoga therapist\, and researcher Neil Pearson. She has been interviewing clinicians and researchers on the topic of pain science and the bio-psycho-social model over the last two years and has a keen interest in always learning more about pain and movement. Kathryn arrived at the strength training practice with her own history of chronic pain and found strength training combined with relaxation to be very helpful. \nWho is this class for \nThis class is appropriate for people who can get up and down from the floor unassisted. Classes will be well balanced\, and there will be some time spent standing\, on hands and knees\, and on the floor. Options will be given when possible and participants are welcome to stay after class if they have specific questions about movement adaptations. Kathryn is committed to staying within her scope of practice as a movement teacher and will provide general education and movement practices. If you are seeking personalized exercises for specific conditions\, or you are in the acute stages of an injury we recommend you visit a physiotherapist. \nHow this works \n\nSign up using the link on this page\, you will receive a receipt in your email (please check junk and spam)\nYou will receive links for the ZOOM calls on January 4th\, at this point if you have anything specific to tell Kathryn emails are welcome\nClasses will be recorded and sent out to the group within 24 hours of the class\nRecordings will expire after 7 days\nParticipants will receive a PDF document on the basic pain principles presented in this class series\, no need to take notes\n\nWhat you will need \n\nGrippy practice surface or yoga mat\nA resistance band (we recommend red latex-free red Therabands\, but any band around 5 feet long works)\nA weight around 10-15 lbs (4-8 kg) or something like a vinegar bottle or gallon of water\nA bolster or a couple of pillows\nA blanket or bath towel\nBall to roll on (tennis ball or Yoga Tune Up massage ball)\n\nPrice \nEarly Bird (must register before Dec 15th) $99 CAD \nRegular Price after Dec 15th $125 CAD \n** $99 CAD is approximately $75 USD\, exchange rates fluctuate slightly each day \nClick here to sign up now \nContact \nWe hope to see you in class.
