Participant Requirements

In order to participate you must have a minimum of 3 years experience teaching some type of in-person exercise. You must also have access to a range of weights, either adjustable dumbbells, a set of heavy kettlebells, or barbell set. During this program you must have time to dedicate to your own strength training, we recommend 2-3x/week.

This program is designed for people who teach in-person, smaller groups or 1-1. If you aren’t currently teaching, but you have a strong interest in learning this material, you are welcome to apply.

It is important that you already know the basic exercises, this program is not appropriate for folks who have never done any lifting before.

I.e. you must know how to do basic exercises like deadlifts, squats, rows. Kathryn is here to help you understand how to adapt, rotate and progress exercises but a basic understanding of the exercises is essential.

“This course helped me find the middle ground. There is a real art and science to building strength safely, and Kathryn teaches it with clarity in easy to understand ways. Over the 6 months, I gained a deeper, embodied understanding of how to use weights that makes sense for my body. This training gave me both the tools and the trust in myself to support others with strength work.”

“The material in this program was accessible, the discussions and questions from peers added valuable perspective, and the approach felt more inclusive—less fear-based and more accommodating of diverse body types and experiences. I often find myself referencing the workshop notes more than the NASM book!

“I loved this program. I started teaching heavy lifting classes half way through and they were instantly very popular and successful. I feel like the program prepared me well to support my students and progress my own lifting.”

About Kathryn

Kathryn (she/her) has been coaching exercise in some form or another since the age of 17. Growing up in her mother’s (Diane Bruni) yoga studio she has been learning about mindful movement her entire life.

In 2012 Kathryn started strength training in an attempt to help her own injuries. In the process she discovered how strength training can be used to build resilience, confidence, muscle and bone mass and that strength training was incredible for everyone! (not just young injured athletes)

Kathryn now runs a small in person gym where she coaches mostly 50+ participants in heavy lifting. She has completed a professional pain science mentorship with physiotherapist Neil Pearson.
