Bone Builders

The first program of our new season begins with building a strong foundation, and what could be stronger than building resilient bones. Bone and muscle can be built at any age, but building bone requires specific training. Bone Builders is a 10-week progressive program with the main focus of maintaining and building bone and muscle mass.

New to strength training or lifting heavy weights? This is a great place to begin! Kathryn and Kyle will teach the foundations of lifting technique, how to progress safely, and how to adapt the exercises so they work for you.

Bone and muscle start to decline in our late 30’s which means it’s never too early (or late) to begin this type of training.  This twice weekly program is ideal for participants with osteopenia or osteoporosis, and anyone interested in the foundations of weight and impact training.

Sept 20 – Nov 26, 2022

Restore Day | Rest & Recover

More than just making time for relaxation, allowing ourselves to sink into deep restorative rest takes practice (and often a little bit of support).  This workshop will teach you the skillful means to experience the benefits of R&R – as well as how to feel safe to completely let go.

Over a few nourishing hours, Chris will guide you through exercises and practices that incrementally build up to one sweet, loving restorative session.  The theme is every little bit helps and can make a BIG difference – which you will definitely experience!   The course also comes with a little workbook with practical tips and strategies to build rest not just on your mat but throughout your whole life.  Greater restfulness for greater mental health and stronger recovery to boost your training overall.

Relaxation isn’t always easy, nor is meditating or being still. This class is ideal for you if you need some guidane around slowing down and tuning inward. Chris brings his years of mental health experience to ensure everyone finds a version of the exercises that will work for them.

Progressive Mobility 

Mobility and strength go hand in hand, although sometimes considered opposites we like to view them as two sides of the same coin. There are many mobility programs out there but our favourite way to build mobility is through active, loaded stretches. Think stretching with weights, resistance stretches, active slider work, and gymnastics progressions.

This 8-week, twice weekly series is perfect for those wanting to increase their range of motion through a variety of active modalities. Resisted stretches are a great way to enhance and improve range of motion because they teach your muscles and tissues how to engage in deep ranges.

Range of motion is more about the nervous system and stretch tolerance than releasing or yanking on our muscles. When our bodies feel safe and resilient we can better tolerate those hard to reach ranges, and we can become more flexible and mobile.  This safety is built through progressive exposure and capacity boosting.

Open Gym Self Practice

This series is for people who know the basics of exercise and want to strengthen their self practice with community and consistency.

We all know that exercise helps with so much, but most of us struggle to fit it in and be accountable to ourselves. This self paced program is ideal for people who are seeking a supportive and motivating training group. 

Show up live, check in, ask for guidance if you need it and get experience building your own programs. If you are a teacher interested in learning about programming this is a great way to explore putting your own programs together and trying them out with Kathryn’s support.

The mistake most people make when designing their own programs is selecting all the really hard exercises and mashing them together. Creating a program is more than just doing hard moves, it’s about balance, and working hard but not to exhaustion. Learn to design your own program for optimal success.

Handstand Club

Handstand Club was one of the first programs we ever taught and an all-around favorite. This twice-weekly program will help you build the strength, mobility, and skill required to practice handstands.  

One of the biggest mistakes we see people make is they kick up to the wall over and over, sometimes for years, and never improve very much. Handstand Club will teach you a step-by-step approach from wrist prep to shoulder strength, core coordination, and skill development. This program has helped numerous people master the handstand because it offers a tried and true progression. 

Inspired by the years Kathryn and Kyle spent in adult gymnastics this series is appropriate for all levels to aspire to do a handstand. There will be time spent on the hands, on the floor, and inverted, but options will be provided to help with accessibility.

April 5 – May 27 2023

  • Learn the step by step way to mastering handstands
  • Already have some handstand experience? Kathryn will teach you how to keep progressing and fine tuning your technique

Cardio Capacity

Curious about cardio exercise but feel a little intimidated by the usual fast paced and high-impact nature of those classes?    Join Chris for this fun-filled and very beginner friendly progression series to build the heart + body capacity for cardiovascular programs like his Mindful Energizer class.

Chris will walk you through evidence-based training recommendations that lead the way towards 30 minutes of sustained activity.   The series begins with low-impact, short intervals and progresses from there.  You will learn how to start where you are (or restart after some time away) and remember the playful feelings we had as kids jumping, dancing and moving with a sense of confident freedom.  

There will always be low-impact options throughout every step of the progression.  The focus is more on getting the heart rate up, increasing our tolerance of those feelings and experiencing the mood-boosting benefits of this kind of exercise.
